Sermon Recap

  • Jesus affirms and names Peter before Peter gets anything right.  Jesus calls him “Peter… load‑bearing rock” even though Peter will immediately misunderstand Jesus’ mission.
  • Jesus corrects Peter without rejecting him.  When Peter rebukes Jesus, Jesus repositions him saying, “Get behind me,” not “Go away,” showing that correction is part of discipleship, not disqualification.
  • Following Jesus requires ongoing surrender and transformation.  The Christian life is a rhythm of affirmation and correction — learning to move from leading Jesus to following Him.

Sermon Reflection Questions:

  • Where do you sense Jesus affirming your identity — naming you as someone who matters — and where might He be correcting or repositioning you right now?
  • Peter knew the right words (“You are the Messiah”) but resisted Jesus’ methods. In what areas do you find yourself agreeing with Jesus’ identity but resisting His way?
  • Jesus says, “Get behind me,” inviting Peter to follow again. What would it look like for you to step behind Jesus this week instead of trying to lead Him?
