Matthew 27: 32-52, 28: 1-10

Series All Eyes on Jesus

Sermon Summary

Pastor Suzanne sat down with Pastor Emeritus Tony to reflect on death, resurrection, and the hope of Jesus in light of Tony’s terminal cancer diagnosis. Together they explored how this season has transformed faith from simply believing the truth of the resurrection to deeply trusting God’s love and surrendering to it. They also discussed Jesus’ vision of heaven breaking into earth and the powerful symbolism of Matthew’s account of the tombs opening at Christ’s death.

Reflection Questions

  • Most of us find it easier to ask “why me?” from a posture of complaint.  How might it change your outlook to ask “why me?” from a posture of gratitude and wonder? What are unexpected gifts God has given you?
  • What pictures of heaven do you have? How have they been formed?
  • Tony described trusting God as a surrender to the infinite love of God.  Read Matthew 27 and 28 slowly, looking at the infinite love of Jesus in his death and resurrection.
