10/13 Sermon Discussion Questions

Recap:

  • Pastor Suzanne talked about the story of Joseph in Genesis. She emphasized that in Joseph’s story we see parts of his story that were his own choices, other peoples’ choices, and God’s redemptive actions. In our own stories, we can find evidence of these as well.
  • She reminded us that, though God does not cause painful situations, God can be redemptively at work through some of the harder situations in our lives.
  • Taking time to reflect and look for how God has been at work in our lives renews hope and cultivates trust, and it helps us discern where God may calling us to invest and minister to others in our lives now.

Reflection Questions:

  • When you think about one of the big moments of your life, where do you see evidence that your own choices, others’ choices, and God’s hand were at work?
  • Can you think of a time when you can see God’s redemptive hand at work through a situation that was painful or hard?
  • Have you ever looked more holistically at your life story to be a “divine detective” (Barbara Brown Taylor’s phrase) of how God has been at work? What feelings does the possibility of doing that raise for you?
  • Is there any theme or experience from your life that God has used to help clarify your calling or used to bless other people through?
