Sermon Recap:

  • In this week's sermon, Pastor Suzanne cautioned against becoming a "pusher" for Jesus because God isn't a product, Jesus didn't model that kind of interaction with people and ultimately, it can end up pushing people away from God.
  • She suggested instead that we can trust that God is always at work and our job is to slow down, look for where God is at work and people are open, then respond.  (Jesus modeled this in John 5:16-20)
  • Being confident that God is at work in all people and all situations frees us to live and love with curiosity and openness instead of pressure, fear and a need to control.
  • Try starting each day with surrender "God, where are you at work today? Show me how to join you."

Reflection Questions:

  • Think about a time when you felt pushed by someone to make a decision or change your position.  Contrast that with a time when you changed your mind about a situation or an issue.  What made you open to change?
  • What makes trusting God's work difficult for you? Are there situations or relationships were you are tempted to push?
  • Ask God daily this week to give you eyes to see the people around you and then respond with one small, concrete action.

If you are struggling with discouragement today, wondering where God is at work, take encouragement from these handful of testimonial post-it notes out of more than 200 people shared on Sunday.
